Update from Mark Bilsby, CEO of the Atlantic Salmon Trust

The Coronavirus is changing our lives and how we operate as a society in so many ways. Our priority at the Atlantic Salmon Trust is to safeguard the people who work with us – either as staff or one of the myriad of volunteers who kindly donate so much of their time. As such we have had to take the difficult decision to postpone our two tracking projects for 2020. However, it is only a pausing of these projects, as we will back in time for next year’s Spring smolt run so that we can better understand what is happening to these young bars of silver.

We will continue to develop the Likely Suspects Framework to better understand the pressures on salmon across the whole of their travels and identify how we can adapt our management to best protect them in this rapidly changing world.

Over the Spring and Summer months we will continue you to keep you up to date with our progress with this work. In the meantime, our resolve to turn around the decline in salmon and sea trout remains resolutely undiminished, so thank you for your time and support.

Stay safe during these difficult times and we looking forward to catching up with you in the not too distant future.

Mark Bilsby
