Film Stories

Wild Salmon Crisis

The wild Atlantic salmon population in Great Britain is now endangered.

Wild salmon have stories to tell.

Stories of extraordinary journeys, of rivers and oceans, of people and places, and of a species that has connected communities for thousands of years.

Through film, we explore the world of wild salmon from new perspectives, uncovering the challenges they face, the landscapes they depend upon, and the people working to secure their future.

These are stories of science, nature, culture and hope. Above all, they are stories about why wild salmon matter – and why their future matters to all of us.

PROJECT WHITE HART

Disappearing in Plain Sight

People rarely fight for what they cannot see. So… we brought a wild salmon into plain sight. And suddenly, people noticed.

PROJECT DEVERON

YETI Presents: Wild Atlantic Salmon – Restoring the Run

In 1924, “Tiny” Morison set the UK record for the heaviest fly-caught salmon, landing a 61-pound giant. Many expected this record to have been surpassed in the last 100 years, but wild Atlantic salmon and their rivers require the steadfast conservation efforts of the angling community and environmental groups like Atlantic Salmon Trust to ensure there are any salmon to fish at all. Ambassador Marina Gibson and many others have dedicated their lives and careers to ensuring that fishing for wild Atlantic salmon is more than “a beautiful waste of time.”

PROJECT DEVERON

A Watershed Moment

Project Deveron is a catchment-scale wild salmon recovery project delivered by The Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust and Atlantic Salmon Trust. In 2025 it succeeded in achieving one of its major early habitat restoration goals in the River Deveron catchment.

With support from Chivas Brothers’ ‘The River Within’ programme and the European Open Rivers Programme, the formerly overgrown and decrepit Mill of Eden weir on the King Edward tributary has now been removed, providing unhindered access for wild Atlantic salmon, trout, eels and other wildlife to over 11km of habitat for the first time in 150 years.

PROJECT DEVERON

Cold, Clean Water

On the River Deveron in northeast Scotland, the Atlantic Salmon Trust and Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust are launching a long-term project to restore the river’s iconic salmon population, also aiming to achieve far-reaching benefits for the area’s wider biodiversity and local communities.

To launch the project, the short film Cold, Clean Water follows actors Jim Murray and Dominic West (of Netflix show The Crown) as they head off the beaten track to journey through the Deveron catchment in the INEOS Grenadier, meeting with the minds leading the project and delving into the extensive measures being planned, combining both landscape-scale habitat restoration and cutting-edge environmental monitoring techniques.

With thanks to INEOS Grenadier, Avochie Estate and Deveronside Fishings for their support in the making of this short film.
