We’re delighted to welcome Dr Caro Cowan to the Atlantic Salmon Trust as our new Research Director.
At a time when wild Atlantic salmon are facing unprecedented pressures, robust scientific evidence has never been more important. Evidence is the foundation that underpins effective restoration, credible advocacy, and clear communication, helping to ensure that decisions are guided by data, insight, and measurable impact.
With extensive leadership experience within the conservation field in Government and public bodies, Caro has been instrumental in driving forward a range of biodiversity outcomes for wildlife, including the management of marine protected areas, the wild salmon implementation plan, seabird conservation, and wider marine restoration, as well as being a senior policy advisor to Scottish Ministers on a wide range of marine environment issues. Caro’s wealth of expertise, policy insight and leadership will strengthen our mission to protect and restore wild salmon and the environments they depend upon, helping to accelerate evidence-led solutions for wild salmon across the UK and beyond.
